KENYA AIRWAYS CRASH - IT WAS A PILOT ERROR!
KENYA Airways could be forced to pay millions of shillings to family members as abunuwasi.com has authoritatively confirmed that human error was to blame for the crash in South west Cameroon two years ago.The former Camerounian minister for transport,
Dakolé Daïssala, in a recorded telephone interview with abunuwasi.com has revealed for the first time that human error was the cause of the Kenya Air
transport company’s Boeing 737-800 unexpected crash at Mbanga Pongo, a clearing
close to the Douala international airport, on the 4th of May 2007.
"We found the black box and sent it to
for analysis," the former minister explained.
"There are two boxes, one that records the flight’s parametres
(flight data recorder) and a second which records the last words of the pilotes
in the cockpit (cockpit data recorder)."
"This discovery allowed us to know what
the pilot said to his co-pilot before the crash," he narrated.
According to him the information retrieved from the black box, had the senior pilot saying to the younger one, "Careful we are overturning, we
need to switch to automatic piloting to keep the plane steady.
"The young
co-pilot did not do what he was told to do."
The final words we heard was
"We are crashing ". And disaster struck… Dakolé Daïssala repeated what he had told "La Nouvelle Expression" in an interview.
According to the former minister, “the
is not to be blamed for the simple reason that the pilot was asked not to fly
due bad weather ".
The Kenya Airways’ Boeing 737-800 which operated the
– Naïrobi - Dubaï via
disappeared from radar screens two minutes after its take-off from the
thunderstorm.
The Crash cost the lives of 114 passengers out of which 35 were Cameroonians
and had a seven member Kenyan crew and an Associated Press Journalist.
Whilst awaiting official results from the investigation, the declarations
of the former Transport minister are the first inside information on the crash.
We have further established that the airline immediately after the crash went into a restructuring programme that has seen new recruits get minimal roles during long flights.
The new development could have the Kenya Airways management prepare to pay millions of money to victims of the air disaster.
However, the airline has the option of awaiting even more costly legal proceedings from family members of those who perished in the crash.
Migingo : Govt walks out of Parliament
Assistant Defence Minister David Musila led the government side in a walkout of Parliament Wednesday morning arguing that they were not being given a chance by sit in speaker Philip Kaloki to contribute to an explosive Migingo debate.Back benchers had a filed day demanding that the state orders the rmed forces to fight over the one kilometre rocky island in Lake Victoria following remarks by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni quoted and aired in International media.
The Government had earlier argued that diplomatic channels had yet to be exhausted, and that even if they failed they should seek mediation and a legal avenue before considering military intervention.
"There are many avenues starting with diplomacy and with teh thousands of options available we cannot just go to war with a friendly nation," Musila told Parliament.
But backbenchers argued that Uganda was no longer a friendly nation after it attacked the Luo community.
"How can we describe Uganda a qas a friendly nation when it has demonized a section of our community, "Mungatana posed.
The debate heated up forcing the minority members on the government side to walk out and thereby forcing an adjournement into the debate two hours ahead of time.
UHURU CLEARED of Wrongdoing...
Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta hasbeen cleared of any wrong doing in the Supplementary Budget fiasco by
the Joint Finance and Budgetary Committee.
THE report is categorical - No money is lost.
A report of the committee tabled in Parliament on Wednesday however
confirmed that there were irregularities in the estimates amounting to
Sh10.7 billion.
"The Auditor General told the committee that the discrepancy is not
stolen and on the face value would mean that the money has not been
spent," the report said.
The Committee has recommended that Mr Kenyatta withdraws the mini-budget and makes corrections.
"Since there are inconsistencies, they should be withdrawn and the correct estimates resubmitted," the report stated.
The inquiry revealed that: “There was either a human error that was
known to some officers who did not report the same for remedial action
thus there might have been purposeful interference in the system."
The committee called for an independent forensic audit to establish the cause of the discrepancies.
Parliament passed the estimates two weeks ago but a week later Imenti
Central MP Gitobu Imanyara raised the red flag and demanded that Mr
Kenyatta clear the air on the discrepancies.
He had initially said that
the discrepancies amounted to Sh9.2 billion. The Finance Minister acted
angrily on the accusations and read political sabotage in the saga.
He pleaded his innocence and maintained that he did not dupe MPs into
approving the funds. Mr Kenyatta has however retreated and admitted
that a 'typographical' error was to blame for the inconsistencies.
The committee submitted that: "The Fiscal Management Bill should be approved and enacted as a matter of urgency."
Parliament was set to discuss the report on Wednesday afternoon after
which the fate of the Supplementary Appropriation Bill that was
withdrawn last week would be known. The committee grilled Finance
Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, the Finance Permanent Secretary Joseph Kinyua,
the budgetary staff and outsiders from finance institutions.
